Swedish author and climate academic Andreas Malm has been blocked from entering the UK ahead of a scheduled speaking engagement in London.

Climate academic and author Andreas Malm has been prevented from entering the UK ahead of a scheduled speaking event in London. Immigration officials informed the Swedish researcher that his presence might not be considered conducive to the public good. Malm, an associate professor of human ecology at Lund University, was set to headline a conference organized by Tribune magazine addressing global geopolitics and British policy. He was scheduled to appear alongside Huda Ammori, co-founder of the banned group Palestine Action, to discuss the implications of the group's proscription.

The event was timed to coincide with a supreme court challenge regarding the ban on Palestine Action. During his planned visit, Malm was also scheduled to participate in media interviews and speak at various academic venues. Immigration authorities issued the entry block citing public good concerns, a justification previously used earlier this year against other international commentators.

Malm condemned the decision as scandalous and urged the government to reconsider the ruling, highlighting his decades of academic and research history in Britain. Author Sally Rooney, whose books were affected by recent related developments, criticized the entry denial as an act of cultural self-harm and an attack on a respected expert. Tribune editor Oliver Eagleton also denounced the action, stating that the academic was invited to discuss free speech limitations before facing censorship himself.

Malm is well known internationally for his writing on environmental justice and human ecology, including his book How to Blow Up a Pipeline, which inspired a cinematic adaptation. Throughout his career, he has regularly visited Britain to deliver lectures at numerous higher education institutions, including Oxford, Cambridge, and King’s College London. Authorities have not provided further details regarding the specific reasons behind the travel restrictions imposed on the academic.
