India Raises FY27 Economic Growth Forecast to 7.3 Percent
India's Ministry of Finance has upgraded its economic growth forecast for the fiscal year to 7.3%, though it cautioned about rising inflation and external pressures.
India's Ministry of Finance has raised its economic expansion forecast for the current fiscal period, pointing to resilient domestic momentum and stronger activity across several key sectors. According to the October economic review, the government now anticipates the national economy to advance at a pace of 7.3% during this timeframe. This represents a minor upward revision from the prior projection of 7.1%.
The fiscal period, designated as FY27, spans from April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. Official reports contrasted these domestic achievements with broader global expansion estimates that remain closer to 3%, highlighting that national momentum has maintained its strength despite international turbulence.
India's Ministry of Finance upgraded its annual economic growth forecast to 7.3% amid solid domestic activity.
Government data revealed that activity across multiple vital indicators accelerated during the prior quarter. Improvements were documented in energy consumption, port traffic, goods and services tax collections, and automobile sales. Despite these positive domestic trends, authorities issued warnings regarding persistent inflationary pressures, challenges facing the national currency, and potential weather-related disruptions from the El Nino phenomenon that could impact soil moisture prior to upcoming winter sowing activities.
External variables, including international petroleum valuations and wider geopolitical instability in the Middle East, continue placing downward pressure on the rupee while fueling inflationary risks. Consumer price inflation reached 5.54% year-on-year in September, while the wholesale price index climbed more significantly by 11.39%. Food inflation registered at 8% within rural communities and 7.18% across urban locations. Meanwhile, fuel and power expenses surged by 25.85% in September compared to the previous year prior to regional conflicts.
The national currency has also experienced a gradual devaluation against the US dollar over the past five years, with the depreciation accelerating during the preceding fifteen months. Nevertheless, officials emphasized that robust foreign exchange reserves valued at approximately $721 billion leave the nation adequately equipped to manage these external vulnerabilities and maintain its ongoing developmental trajectory.
