The International Cricket Council reports nearly 8.5 million ticket requests for the upcoming India-Pakistan match, exceeding demand for the final.

The International Cricket Council announced that it has gathered close to 8.5 million ticket applications for the group stage fixture between India and Pakistan during the upcoming cricket world cup 2027. While contests between the South Asian rivals traditionally attract massive interest, demand for this specific October 10 encounter has surpassed interest in the tournament's final match.

The two teams will face off at the Wanderers cricket ground in Johannesburg during the round-robin phase of the competition. According to the sport's global governing body, the India-Pakistan clash generated 8.4 million ticket requests, whereas the November 21 final at the same venue brought in nearly eight million applications. Additional meetings between the two teams remain possible in the Super Seven stage and the final if both squads qualify.

India and Pakistan group match draws more ticket requests than the tournament final.

This marks the fourth consecutive 50-over world cup where the most lucrative group stage fixture has featured both teams in the same group through a behind-the-scenes ballot. The broader tournament features 57 matches across 12 venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, running from October 7 to November 21, 2027. The event marks the return of the tournament to Africa after a 24-year absence, with Namibia hosting matches for the first time and Zimbabwe showcasing a new stadium at Victoria Falls.

The online ticket ballot opened on October 1 and concludes at midnight Central African Time on November 21. Total ticket applications from 2.8 million unique fan accounts across 193 countries exceeded 120 million by Sunday. Ballot registrations are led by applicants from South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Australia, with African fans accounting for 14.9 million applications.

Why it matters

The unprecedented ticket demand highlights the immense global popularity of fixtures between India and Pakistan, cementing this regional rivalry as the most commercially significant matchup in international cricket. For fans across South Asia and worldwide, securing seats for this group stage encounter has proven more competitive than attending the tournament's ultimate championship match.
