Israeli forces have demolished the homes of two brothers behind a deadly attack on soldiers as a military offensive continues in Hebron.

Israeli military forces have destroyed the homes of two Palestinian brothers implicated in the killing of two Israeli soldiers in Hebron. The demolitions occurred on the eighth day of an ongoing military siege in the southern West Bank city. Troops demolished the properties belonging to brothers Ahmad and Hammouda al-Jaabeh after cordoning off the area and spending hours rigging the buildings with explosives. The brothers were previously killed following an assault near the Farsh al-HAwa checkpoint that resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to three others.

Following the blasts, troops backed by drones moved into the area and detained at least twelve residents who attempted to approach the demolition site. Human rights monitors noted instances of detainee abuse during the operation. Furthermore, the Ein Deir Bahha neighbourhood was completely cleared of its inhabitants, with multiple residences converted into military command posts and barracks. Meanwhile, hundreds of families in the nearby al-Jalda area remain confined to their homes under the strict military lockdown.

Thousands remain displaced in Hebron as military operations and home demolitions continue across the West Bank.

Municipality officials reported that nearly five thousand individuals across hundreds of families have been displaced by the offensive. Security forces have arrested over one hundred people and interrogated hundreds more since the operation commenced, alongside the destruction of numerous local businesses. Displaced residents, including children and elderly individuals, have staged protests near the al-Jalda roundabout to demand an end to the siege and their return home.

Wider West Bank Impact

Regional experts have characterised the ongoing measures as collective punishment intended to fragment Palestinian society and enforce severe pressure on the local population. Political aims appear to drive the operation, which has transformed the area into a heavily controlled military zone. Hamas has called for international intervention to address the systematic displacement, while separate raids, detentions, and disruptions to agricultural harvests have been reported near Tulkarem, Bethlehem, and Nablus.

Why it matters

The escalation in the West Bank affects regional stability and heightens humanitarian concerns for thousands of displaced civilians. Troops currently hold at least twelve individuals near the demolished sites while nearly five thousand residents remain displaced from Hebron neighbourhoods.
