Akash Network Solana Migration Plan Threatens Current Staking Rewards

Akash Network's proposed migration to Solana would terminate current inflation-funded staking rewards while establishing a framework for new token issuance.

Akash Network is advancing a proposal that would migrate its decentralized cloud-computing marketplace and AKT token to Solana. The initiative, designated as Proposal 346, outlines a multi-step transition that impacts token balances, staking income, and future supply for holders of the Cosmos-based asset.

The proposed migration separates the approval process, token launch, marketplace cutover, and the eventual halt of the old chain. Under the current design, inflation-funded staking rewards paid on the existing chain would end at the marketplace cutover. Validator roles and income would subsequently terminate 90 days later when the old chain halts completely.

While a successful vote would authorize a one-way portal allowing users to exchange one old AKT for one SPL AKT, this mechanism preserves only the token balance at conversion rather than the income attached to holding or staking it. The submitted proposal anticipates that SPL AKT and the conversion portal will launch two to three weeks after passage, pending completed audits.

Akash's Solana migration plan would terminate current staking rewards while creating new provider incentives.

Earlier technical drafts and blog posts offered varying timelines for unbonding periods and portal usage, meaning final audited instructions will need to reconcile these differences. Meanwhile, Greg Osuri indicated that new staking mechanisms would be announced prior to the cutover, establishing a commitment to a replacement system rather than publishing an immediate yield formula.

Additionally, the migration design under AEP-79 makes provisions for replacement emissions through newly issued AKT directed toward provider incentives and the community treasury. However, the precise numerical curve, gross rate, decay, and cumulative hard cap remain unresolved by governance.

Compute payments may also influence the circulating supply of AKT, though the roadmap and proposed Solana architecture describe different limits. The Solana design specifies that AKT supplied for compute credits stays in a vault as collateral and expressly forbids the burn-mint equilibrium program from minting new tokens.

Why it matters for akash network solana participants

The proposal separates the end of old-chain rewards from future provider and treasury incentives, leaving emission amounts and replacement staking yields unresolved. This transition directly affects how token holders earn income and manage exposure to future token issuance during the multi-step move to Solana.
