Fallon Sherrock claimed a shock victory against world darts number one Luke Littler during Netflix's live UK entertainment broadcast.

In a major upset on Friday evening, fallon sherrock defeated world darts champion Luke Littler during a live streaming event hosted at the Manchester Central arena. Billed as Beat Luke Littler, the programme was Netflix's first UK live entertainment broadcast, raising questions about whether audiences would tune in instead of watching the final of the BBC show Celebrity Traitors.

The event featured twenty amateur challengers attempting to beat Littler in a single leg of darts to win a grand prize of £501,000. Netflix had established contingency plans for a secondary competition in case the world champion was defeated early in the evening, as producers remained uncertain when a loss might occur.

Contestants of varying abilities took turns facing the top-ranked player while crowds watched in fancy dress. Although former Irish youth darts player Pearse Mackle came close to claiming the cash reward, it ultimately took roughly two and a half hours for the world champion to fall to the fifteenth challenger of the night.

Eligibility rules sparked controversy earlier in the month due to Sherrock holding an MBE for services to darts and having previously competed in the PDC World Darts Championship alongside winning the 2022 Women's World Matchplay. However, tournament organisers maintained that anyone who had never held a PDC tour card remained qualified to participate.

Fallon Sherrock secured a shock £501,000 victory against Luke Littler during Netflix's live darts broadcast.

Following her triumph, Sherrock expressed astonishment at the outcome while speaking with hosts Gary Lineker and Richard Osman on stage. Littler praised his opponent's performance, describing her level of play as world class and suggesting the format could return on the streaming platform next year.

Why it matters

The successful broadcast demonstrates the potential for live mainstream sports entertainment events on major streaming platforms, offering an alternative to traditional television schedules. Produced by Manchester-based Workerbee, the format introduces working-class audiences to digital streaming services while establishing new avenues for live competitive programming.
