An operative who guarded Nigel Farage during local elections was later convicted of rape, prompting questions over security vetting protocols.

An individual who provided security services for Nigel Farage during local election walkabouts this year was facing a rape charge and was subsequently sentenced to an eight-and-a-half-year prison term, bringing scrutiny to third-party vetting procedures. Ryan Dinnage protected the Reform UK leader during April and May before being convicted in June for raping a woman while she slept in a caravan at the Royal Windsor horse show.

Dinnage was spotted alongside Farage on at least four occasions during the spring local election campaign trail in locations including Llandudno in Conwy County, Waterlooville in Hampshire, Worthing in West Sussex, and Downham Market in Norfolk. He had been charged in 2025, three years after the offense occurred at the equestrian venue in May 2022. Thames Valley Police confirmed that the crime took place in the early hours of 16 May 2022, when Dinnage entered the victim's caravan. He was reported that day and arrested the following morning, later receiving his sentence in July at the age of 32.

Reform UK confirmed that Dinnage was part of the security detail provided by a third-party contractor who assured the party he had undergone proper vetting. A party representative stated that leadership was shocked and disgusted upon learning of the situation, and his services were immediately terminated. Nevertheless, the incident has highlighted vulnerabilities regarding how an operative facing serious sexual violence charges could be placed in close proximity to a senior politician and members of the public. The party did not address whether its relationship with the contractor would continue or if any measures were taken against them.

A security guard who protected Nigel Farage during local elections was later jailed for rape.

A Labour spokesperson criticized the party, urging Farage to explain when leadership learned about the situation and demanding accountability for allowing a charged individual to interact directly with the public. The representative added that the party faces ongoing controversies and urged leadership to address systemic issues. Farage typically maintains a large security detail due to reported threats, previously funding private security through a donation and declining state-provided protection.

Meanwhile, Reform UK also criticized the Conservative Party over a separate vetting issue involving former election candidate Jack Ross. Ross, who worked as a consultant in Kemi Badenoch's office, faced scrutiny and an internal investigation after an undercover report showed him discussing contract killing and far-reaching disruption. Scottish police announced plans to review documentary footage involving Ross's remarks.
