Marc Marquez triumphed at the Sepang circuit to extend his championship lead as rival Jorge Martin sat out due to injury.

Reigning champion Marc Marquez secured victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix, widening his points advantage at the top of the standings and moving closer to securing another crown. The Ducati rider made a strong start on Sunday in Sepang, overtaking his brother and pole-sitter Alex Marquez at the first turn. Although Alex briefly reclaimed the position, he ran wide shortly afterward, allowing his sibling to take control of the race and cruise to his first victory at the venue since 2018.

Marc Marquez crossed the finish line more than four seconds ahead of the competition to reach 399 points for the season. Following closely behind was Saturday sprint winner Pedro Acosta of KTM, who secured second place after executing a skilled pass on Alex Marquez midway through the event. Alex Marquez completed the podium in third for the Gresini team. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia finished in sixth position after being overtaken in the closing stages by Ai Ogura and Enea Bastianini.

Marc Marquez secured a dominant victory in Sepang to extend his championship lead.

The weekend proved difficult for Jorge Martin, whose championship challenge suffered a significant blow. The Aprilia rider initially attempted to participate in practice sessions but was visibly hampered by a wrist fracture sustained during a crash at Phillip Island the previous week. After withdrawing from qualifying, Martin conceded that his title defense was effectively over. His absence allowed Marc Marquez to capitalize fully on the track.

Looking ahead, the championship moves to the Lusail International Circuit for the upcoming weekend. The event is scheduled to proceed despite concerns raised by competitors regarding travel during the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Why it matters

This outcome significantly alters the championship landscape as the season approaches its final stages. Marc Marquez now holds a substantial advantage over the chasing pack and stands in a position to secure his eighth title as the racing calendar winds down.
