Authorities in Nepal have released the verified names of over 2,200 citizens and 171 foreign nationals missing following the August 2026 floods.
Following a devastating natural disaster, Nepal has officially published details regarding individuals who remain unaccounted for after the Nepal August 26 flood disaster earlier this year. The disaster management authority released verified information concerning 2,294 citizens originating from 32 districts, alongside 171 foreign nationals representing seven different countries.
The publication follows the conclusion of a forty-day search and rescue mission targeting the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods, an event that resulted in at least 1,455 fatalities and thousands of disappearances. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority explained that the current roster strictly incorporates names verified by local district committees, while further updates will follow once regional administration offices provide additional information.
Over 2,200 Nepalis and 171 foreign nationals are officially listed as missing after the August floods.
Missing Nationals Across Multiple Districts
According to the official data, the highest concentration of missing citizens is located in the Rasuwa district, accounting for 1,538 individuals. The compilation for locals was formulated based on recommendations originating from permanent residence local governments and subsequently approved through district disaster committees.
Regarding foreign nationals, the administration compiled records with assistance from the Department of Consular Services as well as diplomatic missions. The documented foreign missing persons include 54 individuals from Malaysia and Ukraine combined, 33 from Australia, 11 from Russia, nine from South Korea, eight from Germany, and two from Italy. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that a verified list regarding missing Indian nationals has not yet been received from the Indian Embassy.
Claims and Verification Process
Individuals who appear on the registry but are subsequently located alive, or their immediate family members, have been instructed to submit formal claims within a seven-day window. The disaster management authority intends to issue a revised notice upon gathering comprehensive details from all involved district administration offices and relevant diplomatic missions.
Why it matters
This official publication brings a structured administrative approach to the aftermath of the severe weather events that damaged northern and central regions. By setting a strict seven-day window for verification claims, the administration aims to update records regarding the thousands affected by the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floodwaters.
