Tens of thousands join youth-led demonstrations across major German cities, leading to evening clashes and police intervention.
Tens of thousands of participants joined demonstrations across major urban centers in Germany, organized by a collective operating under the banner of "Gen Z regelt". The gatherings were initially peaceful during daytime hours, drawing inspiration from comparable movements previously observed in France and Italy. Organizers stated that approximately 120,000 individuals participated nationwide, falling short of their initial projection of roughly 180,000.
As daylight faded, the situation deteriorated in several prominent locations including Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg. Security forces faced groups of participants who refused orders to disperse. ## Evening clashes and water cannon use
Confrontations erupted as some individuals engaged in violent acts, throwing Molotov cocktails at law enforcement personnel. In response, police deployed water cannon to disperse the crowds and regain control of the streets. Several police officers sustained injuries during the Saturday operations.
Youth-led demonstrations across Germany turned violent on Saturday, prompting police to use water cannon.
These large-scale gatherings highlight growing mobilization among younger demographics demanding social changes, though the outbreak of violence poses significant security challenges for urban administrators and law enforcement agencies handling civil unrest.
