Internationally recognised forces in Yemen report capturing military positions and supply depots east of al-Jawf amid an ongoing multi-front escalation.

State-backed military units in Yemen announced they have recaptured several positions and strategic high ground located east of al-Hazm, the capital of al-Jawf. According to the military media branch, the 1st Emergency Brigade successfully took over weapon and ammunition storage facilities after engaging opposing fighters. Officials stated that the operation involved casualties and the destruction of armored vehicles belonging to the Houthi movement. Conversely, Houthi representatives asserted that their fighters successfully blocked advances attempted by the yemeni government forces in both al-Jawf and the adjacent Marib region.

Al-Jawf shares a border with Saudi Arabia and sits near governorates under Houthi control, giving the area notable strategic value for the administration's broader campaign. This military activity forms part of Operation Dawn of Yemen, an initiative that commenced in October to challenge earlier territorial losses. Meanwhile, armed clashes continued around Taiz in the southern part of the country. Government representatives stated they managed to push back incursions in al-Aqroudh and along the Tur al-Baha sector in the Lahij governorate.

Strategic military positions and supply depots were seized following clashes in al-Jawf.

Concurrently, media tied to the Houthi movement indicated that air strikes hit an industrial oil facility situated within the Bajil district of Hodeidah. These developments coincide with severe disruptions in Taiz, where restricted entry points and reported sniper activity have hindered the arrival of food, fuel, and medical cargo. Although some humanitarian shipments have begun reaching people in need, others faced prolonged delays due to blocked transport routes.

Why it matters

The ongoing conflict continues to worsen humanitarian conditions across multiple regions, severely impacting displaced residents and vulnerable populations. The United Nations reports that hundreds of thousands of people have left their homes since hostilities intensified, while thousands of pregnant women and tens of thousands of refugees face severe shortages of essential services, medical care, and supplies.
