Amundi, Europe's largest asset manager, has officially launched a tokenized share class for its STOXX Europe 600 equity index fund. By utilizing the Ethereum blockchain, the firm is expanding its digital investment offerings beyond its previous focus on money market funds. This new share class, developed in partnership with the asset-servicing firm CACEIS, provides blockchain-based exposure to an index that tracks 600 large-, mid- and small-cap companies across developed European markets. While the fund is now available in a tokenized format, Amundi confirmed that the product will remain accessible through traditional investment channels as well.

Amundi Europe 600 expansion

The initiative follows the firm's initial foray into tokenization, which saw the introduction of a money market fund share class in November 2025, also built on Ethereum with CACEIS. Amundi stated that it intends to continue developing a broader range of tokenized funds tailored for institutional clients and digital platforms. The company highlighted that this transition toward blockchain technology is driven by the potential for improved accessibility, faster settlement speeds, and greater operational efficiency.

This development occurs against the backdrop of a rapidly growing global market for tokenized equities. According to data from RWA.xyz, the total value of tokenized stocks reached $4.24 billion as of November 4, representing an increase of nearly 27% over the preceding 30-day period. However, the current landscape remains heavily concentrated in US-related assets, with the 10 largest tokenized equity products currently tied to US companies or securities, such as Alphabet, SpaceX, and Circle.

European financial firms have been actively lobbying regulators to foster a more competitive environment for digital assets. In April, a coalition of 39 industry groups and companies cautioned that the European Union risks lagging behind the United States in the sector. They urged regulators to implement reforms, including expanded asset eligibility, higher volume limits, and the removal of time restrictions on licenses under the EU's Distributed Ledger Technology Pilot Regime.

Why it matters

The launch of this tokenized fund represents a significant step for institutional finance in Europe, signaling a shift toward integrating traditional equity indices with blockchain infrastructure. By offering digital exposure to the STOXX Europe 600, Amundi is positioning itself to meet the growing institutional demand for tokenized assets.

This move highlights the ongoing push by major European financial institutions to modernize settlement and operational processes. As the market for tokenized equities expands, these developments may eventually influence how global investors, including those in South Asian markets, interact with European equity benchmarks through digital platforms.
