Binance France is closing its operations in the country, with customers receiving notification emails during early November. According to media reports from outlets such as Cryptoast and Crypto Briefing, all user accounts will be shut down on December 31. Users maintaining a balance after that date will face a monthly maintenance fee of 0.025% of the balance, or a minimum of 10 USDC. To avoid these charges, customers must complete their withdrawals by November 29.
A Binance email cited in reports stated that the closure is part of an orderly cessation of activities. The message noted that if crypto assets are not withdrawn by the final date, the exchange will consider the account inactive under its Terms of Use, potentially leading to the conversion or transfer of those assets.
Binance France Regulatory Context
This development follows broader European regulatory shifts. In late June, Cointelegraph reported that Binance notified European Union users that access to key services would be restricted after the exchange failed to secure Markets in Crypto-Assets regulatory authorization from a member state before a strict July 1 deadline. Responding to inquiries, a Binance spokesperson stated that the platform is progressively restricting certain services for affected users following the end of the transition period.
Media reports indicate that Binance serves a global client base of at least 300 million customers, while the mobile application registered more than 4 million downloads across the European Union during the previous year.
Binance France accounts will close on December 31, with asset fees starting on November 29.
Why it matters
The closure of Binance France directly affects local account holders who must act quickly to withdraw their funds before monthly maintenance fees are applied starting late November. This action highlights the ongoing impact of stricter European regulatory frameworks on major digital asset exchanges operating within member states.
