The Bitcoin BTC price faced downward pressure on Monday, falling approximately 1.7% following the Wall Street opening. After reaching a local high of $78,750 following Sunday's weekly close, the cryptocurrency struggled to maintain momentum, slipping back below the $77,000 threshold. This movement occurred even as broader financial markets reacted to news regarding the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

Market sentiment shifted after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled that the administration prefers a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with Iran. These comments, which suggested that military action remains an option but is not the preferred path, led to a sharp decline in energy markets. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil dropped over 7%, trading near $96.50 per barrel, while Brent crude fell by 9%.

Bitcoin dropped 1.7% on Monday as markets weighed diplomatic progress in the US-Iran conflict.

While U.S. stocks opened higher on the news, gains for the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were limited as investors awaited upcoming third-quarter earnings reports from major tech firms like Apple and Palantir. The Nasdaq index saw a modest rise of about 0.2%. Gold, meanwhile, showed resilience, rebounding past $3,950 per ounce after hitting 13-month lows late last week.

Analyzing the Bitcoin BTC chart

Technical analysts are closely monitoring the current support levels for the digital asset. Crypto trader and analyst Rekt Capital noted that a recent three-day bearish retest was successful, suggesting that the price could potentially fall below the $76,000 support level. The asset had previously attempted to break through horizontal resistance at $78,500 without success.

Trading firm QCP Capital highlighted in its latest analysis that the range between $76,000 and $76,600 has served as a zone for upward reversals four times since September. The firm noted that a daily close back above $79,500 would be required to recover the price band that was lost last Thursday.

Why it matters

This price movement illustrates how sensitive digital assets remain to broader geopolitical developments and shifts in traditional market indicators like oil. For investors, the current volatility highlights the ongoing tug-of-war between potential diplomatic resolutions in global conflicts and the return of risk-off sentiment driven by corporate earnings expectations.
