Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer secured a 2-0 victory for Chelsea against Manchester United in the Premier League, increasing pressure on manager Michael Carrick.
Michael Carrick remains under severe pressure as Manchester United manager following a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The visitors failed to capitalize on multiple first-half chances, leaving the twenty-time English champions lingering perilously close to the relegation zone.
Following a weekend home defeat against Bournemouth, Carrick had been given an opportunity to steady the team. He recalled captain Bruno Fernandes, who had previously criticized managerial tactics. Fernandes wasted an early opportunity by missing the target from close range, while Amad Diallo was repeatedly denied by backup goalkeeper Mike Penders. A headed effort from Matheus Cunha was also disallowed for offside after a corner routine.

The game turned decisively in the second half when Morgan Rogers advanced through the center circle without resistance to chip the ball past Senne Lammens on fifty minutes. Shortly after, Lisandro Martinez received two quick yellow cards. The defender first hauled back Rogers before committing a reckless challenge on Wesley Fofana, resulting in a penalty following a video review.
Cole Palmer converted the resulting spot-kick despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to the ball. Although Estevao later had another goal disallowed for offside, Chelsea comfortably controlled the remainder of the fixture. The defeat leaves Manchester United winless across nine matches.
Why it matters
The result leaves the visiting club just one point above the relegation danger zone ahead of a crucial European fixture against Roma at Old Trafford. Failure to reverse their current form risks both financial repercussions and early elimination from continental competition.
