Hundreds of volunteers gathered in Hockley to pack diwali hampers for vulnerable households struggling with living costs.

Volunteers recently gathered in Birmingham to pack hundreds of food parcels aimed at assisting households dealing with financial pressures. The community effort took place at the RSRS Centre located in Hockley, drawing approximately three hundred participants for the tenth iteration of the charitable initiative.

The event was coordinated by a Herefordshire charity to help people navigate difficult economic conditions. Organisers pointed out that more than twelve percent of households across the United Kingdom face food poverty. To address this issue, the foundation partners with roughly forty charities and food banks, having delivered thousands of hampers over the years.

Founder Deepak Parekh noted the persistence of financial hardships while highlighting the seasonal message of light triumphing over darkness. Volunteers expressed deep empathy for the recipients while sorting items into bags, considering what households might prepare with the limited provisions available.

Prepared packages were subsequently transported to residents living in housing association properties in Walsall. Representatives from the housing group described current conditions as severely challenging for their customers, praising the initiative for providing a meaningful difference.

Local residents who received the parcels expressed profound gratitude for the assistance during a time when many individuals lack basic provisions. Beyond the West Midlands gathering, a similar London assembly took place on Saturday, with additional community packaging sessions scheduled in Manchester and Leicester.

Organisers have established a goal to distribute thousands of food parcels during the current campaign. This ongoing community response reflects collective efforts to support residents facing economic distress during the festive period.
