Aave has frozen deposits and borrowing for $136 million in tokenized Bitcoin after Threshold Network paused its minting and redemption bridge for security maintenance.
Decentralized lending protocols are limiting their exposure to tokenized assets following a sudden bridge pause, drawing intense interest from individuals searching for crypto aave updates online. Aave has restricted new deposits and borrowing against a substantial reserve of tokenized Bitcoin after Threshold Network halted operations on its bridge while carrying out undisclosed security maintenance.
The intervention began following a decision by Threshold to suspend its Bitcoin bridge activities. Despite the operational freeze, security updates from the project confirmed that the digital asset remains fully backed. Bridge wallets hold approximately 4,320 units of the cryptocurrency against a circulating supply of slightly fewer coins. Project representatives assured users that no funds were lost and that investigators found no evidence of unauthorized token creation.
Threshold Network paused its Bitcoin bridge, prompting Aave to freeze deposits and borrowing for tokenized assets.
Although direct redemptions are paused, existing tokenized assets remain transferable across networks. Risk service providers recommended immediate protective measures, leading Aave's guardian multisig to execute restrictions that prevent users from adding collateral or increasing borrowing power. At the time of the action, a significant portion of the total circulating supply was actively supplied to the core market.
Additional risk mitigation was observed across other platforms, where lending markets backed by the affected collateral experienced partial liquidity withdrawals. Analysts warned that the suspension of the redemption mechanism could impact secondary-market liquidity and complicate liquidations if market conditions deteriorate.
Why it matters
Borrowers can continue repaying obligations or utilizing eligible alternative collateral, but current restrictions prevent the reopening of paused redemption pathways. This situation affects participants relying on decentralized finance platforms by altering liquidity dynamics and collateral management.
Market observers tracking digital assets must navigate temporary operational limits while developers work on security remediation and future network updates.
