Strategy experienced a significant shift in its capital allocation during the week ending November 1, as the firm’s deployable USD cash reserves declined by 45.3%. The company’s available balance dropped from $242 million to $133 million, primarily driven by a record-setting program of preferred-stock buybacks that outweighed its recent Bitcoin purchases.
Strategy bitcoin purchase activity
During this period, Strategy returned to more substantial Bitcoin accumulation after a brief pause. The company acquired 811 BTC between October 26 and November 1, spending approximately $66 million at an average price of $80,846 per coin. This latest move brings the firm's total holdings to 849,327 BTC, acquired for a total of $64 billion. While this marked the largest purchase since late September, it represented only about 40% of the $164 million in net proceeds generated from the sale of 1,178,552 shares of common stock through its at-the-market offering program.
Strategy’s deployable cash dropped 45% as the firm spent $208 million on preferred-stock repurchases last week.
While the company resumed its accumulation of digital assets, its spending on STRC preferred-stock repurchases accelerated to record levels. Strategy repurchased approximately 2,092,035 STRC shares for $208 million, surpassing the previous record of $205 million set in late October. The firm paid an average of $99.52 per share, bringing the price close to the $100 stated value of the security. Since launching the program in July, the company has dedicated more than $2 billion to these repurchases, which are intended to support the trading price of the variable-rate perpetual preferred security.
In addition to the flexible cash balance, the company maintains a separate USD Reserve, which decreased from $4.83 billion to $4.79 billion after a $43 million dividend payment. The company did not issue new preferred shares during the week, leaving common-stock sales as the sole source of fresh equity capital for these activities. With $749 million remaining in its digital credit securities repurchase authorization, the company continues to balance its capital management framework between digital asset acquisitions and the reduction of outstanding preferred capital.
Why it matters
The shift in capital allocation highlights Strategy's dual focus on accumulating Bitcoin and managing its preferred-stock obligations. By prioritizing the repurchasing of STRC shares, the company is actively reducing its preferred capital outstanding while supporting the security's market price. This development is significant for stakeholders monitoring the company's treasury management, as it demonstrates how the firm balances its aggressive digital asset strategy against the need to maintain its broader financial obligations.
