On November 4, Strategy saw its STRC preferred stock return to the $100 threshold, a development that could restore the company’s ability to finance new Bitcoin acquisitions. Executive chairman Michael Saylor acknowledged the milestone, noting the security’s return to its stated value after months of trading at a discount. The recent market performance regarding the Strategy STRC preferred stock recovery follows a period where the company was forced to prioritize share repurchases over capital raising.
Since July, Strategy had spent approximately $2 billion to support the security, effectively acting as a drain on cash reserves that might otherwise have been directed toward Bitcoin treasury growth. Data from the independent tracker STRC.live indicated that the security briefly touched the $100 mark before closing slightly lower at $99.97. The tracker also estimated that renewed at-the-market activity facilitated by this price point may have allowed the firm to purchase roughly 191 Bitcoin on Wednesday.
Strategy STRC Preferred Stock Recovery Dynamics
Strategy’s policy restricts the issuance of new STRC securities when trading below the $100 par value. As of November 1, the company reported having approximately $18 billion in STRC available for potential issuance. By maintaining the $100 level, the firm can once again utilize this instrument to raise capital specifically for Bitcoin purchases without the need to issue additional common stock. This shift is supported by a recent change in the dividend structure, which now features daily distributions to attract income-seeking investors to the 12% annual yield product.
CEO Phong Le has previously described the instrument as digital credit, noting its growth into a $10 billion product within its first year. Beyond its role in Bitcoin financing, the company has seen $500 million in yield-generating stablecoins and tokenized products built on the STRC framework, signaling broader ambitions for the platform.
Why it matters
The recovery of the STRC security is significant because it provides a mechanism for institutional Bitcoin accumulation that operates independently of spot exchange-traded funds. According to an October report from Fidelity Digital Assets, such preferred securities have already financed the acquisition of over 135,000 Bitcoin across the industry.
However, this model carries inherent risks. Fidelity warned that the strategy depends on Bitcoin’s price appreciation to cover the cost of dividend payments. Strategy’s recent experience, which involved spending billions to support the stock during market downturns, highlights the financial pressure issuers face when market demand for the security wanes.
Strategy's STRC rebound could shift the company from repurchasing shares to financing new Bitcoin acquisitions.
