Nine men have gone on trial accused of participating in the abuse of a woman who was drugged, raped, and sexually assaulted by her husband over two decades.

The trial involving nine men accused of being connected to the abuse of a woman who was drugged, raped, and sexually assaulted by her husband has commenced at Manchester Minshull Street crown court. The husband, whose identity is withheld to protect his victim, previously pleaded guilty to numerous offences spanning more than twenty years at the couple's home in Stockport.

According to prosecutor Louise Oakley KC, the husband lived a double life of respectability. Initially exploiting occasions when his wife consumed alcohol, he later administered stupefying drugs without her knowledge. From 2023 at the latest, he began inviting other men to the house and filmed himself and others abusing his wife while she lay unconscious in bed. The victim remained completely unaware of the ordeal until police contacted her and identified her in the recovered videos.

Of the defendants standing trial for offences alleged to have occurred between 2015 and the husband's arrest in 2025, two are classified as non-contact offenders. Daniel Rayner and David Graves are accused of online encouragement. The other seven participants, described as contact offenders, allegedly visited the Greater Manchester property to take part in the abuse. They are Philip Wild, Jordan Wallace, Alan Keelan, Jonathan Kirk, Robert Stewart, Mohammed Sabir, and Richard Townsend. Three additional men and another individual recently admitted to related charges at previous hearings.

The investigation began after undercover journalists infiltrated a Telegram chat, leading to police seizing the husband's mobile phone. Prosecutor Oakley described the device as containing over a million photographs and videos cataloguing decades of abuse. The defendants maintain their innocence, and the trial continues.
