United States spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds experienced substantial financial pressures on Thursday, registering a combined $530 million in net withdrawals. This sharp reversal quickly dampened the brief market recovery that had occurred a day earlier following the resolution of uncertainties surrounding the US midterm elections. When checking bitcoin ethereum news today, observers noted that the latest figures highlight how rapidly investor sentiment can shift during broader financial downturns.
Farside Investors data indicated that Bitcoin funds accounted for $430.23 million of the daily losses, while Ethereum counterparts shed an additional $99.98 million. Fidelity's FBTC suffered the largest individual Bitcoin ETF withdrawal at $199.87 million, completely reversing its previous day's gains. Meanwhile, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust marked its fifth consecutive session of negative flows, contributing to a cumulative industry withdrawal of approximately $1.51 billion over five trading days. Across the entire sector, twelve separate Bitcoin funds failed to record any positive net inflows during the Thursday session.
Ethereum investment products faced comparable selling pressure, driven primarily by BlackRock funds. The flagship ETHA vehicle lost $75.2 million, and its staked counterpart ETHB dropped $22 million, pushing total monthly Ethereum ETF net withdrawals to roughly $272 million. The widespread redemption wave coincided with a steep decline in underlying asset values. Bitcoin surrendered its recent rebound above $80,000 to trade near $75,581, while Ethereum retreated to $2,237 after previously climbing past $2,400.
Massive ETF withdrawals erased a short-lived recovery as equities and cryptocurrencies fell simultaneously.
The simultaneous cryptocurrency sell-off was accompanied by a severe Wall Street rout. According to reports from The Kobeissi Letter, the Nasdaq 100 witnessed its steepest single-day drop since the 2020 pandemic, and the S&P 500 lost $3 trillion in market value. President Donald Trump characterized the stock market plunge as one of the worst days in history. Market observers attributed the broader equity decline to concerns that Democratic control of Congress might prompt stricter regulatory limitations on artificial intelligence infrastructure development.
Why it matters
The simultaneous drop in equities and digital assets demonstrates how quickly macroeconomic sentiment can dictate cryptocurrency market directions, replacing post-election relief with renewed risk aversion. These capital withdrawals underscore the fragile nature of recent ETF demand recoveries and highlight ongoing volatility for institutional investment vehicles.
