An XRP Ledger sample shows that advertised Bitstamp USD order book sizes significantly overstated actual funded token inventory.

An XRP Ledger order book sample recently advertised 1.28 million Bitstamp-issued USD tokens at the November 4 close, but the offer owners' balances actually funded only about 57,000. For an XRP holder selling into those offers, the headline quantity overstated the token inventory available to trade, contrasting sharply with a smaller, fully funded Ripple USD book. Traders searching for xrp usd data will find that headline figures can be misleading due to uncollateralized listings.

On November 4 at ledger 108120236, Bitstamp-issued USD offers totaled 1,280,737 tokens quoted against 56,887 funded, representing a funded share of just 4.44 percent. One single offer advertised 1,241,760 USD tokens while its funded amount was only 17,967. This discrepancy occurred because XRPL offer rules permit owners to advertise more than they currently hold, as placing an offer does not lock its full amount.

Understanding xrp usd Order Books

A subsequent refresh on November 5 at ledger 108132129 showed a large Bitstamp-dollar gap of roughly 1.31 million tokens quoted against 58,179 funded. Meanwhile, the smaller sample for the dollar stablecoin Ripple USD held about 92,000 funded tokens on November 4, though its earlier fully funded reading did not persist into the next day. Model estimations demonstrate that a 50,000-XRP sale exhausted the sampled Bitstamp-dollar offers after about 47,484 XRP, returning 58,179 USD tokens and leaving 2,516 XRP unsold.

Advertised order book sizes for XRP can drastically overstate the actual funded token inventory available to traders.

Different issuer-token units are not interchangeable bank dollars, and accessing redemption depends heavily on applicable account and issuer conditions. Quoted size, funded inventory, and completed trading volume all answer different questions for market participants.

Why it matters

For digital asset traders, relying solely on advertised order book depths can lead to miscalculations regarding market liquidity and execution prices. Understanding the distinction between quoted sizes and funded inventories helps market participants better evaluate actual counterparty capacity and execution risks on the ledger.
