Bitcoin reached multi-week lows after dropping below $75,000 following strong US employment data, missing out on a broader equity market rebound.

The bitcoin price fell under $75,000 on Friday, recording levels not seen since mid-August as crypto markets diverged from a wider equity market recovery. TradingView figures showed the overall cryptocurrency market capitalization contracted by 0.5% over the session, while major stock indices advanced.

While digital assets faced selling pressure, United States stock markets rebounded as investors bought heavily discounted technology shares. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.6% and 1.2% respectively. Specific equities experienced even sharper upward movements, with SanDisk and Micron Technologies both rising by 6.3%.

US Employment Data Drives Rate Hike Bets

The market shift followed the release of US nonfarm payrolls figures for October. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy generated 165,000 jobs during the month, surpassing the predicted 65,000. Additionally, September's initial count of 29,000 positions was revised upward to 60,000.

Employment gains occurred primarily within professional and business services, health care, transportation, and warehousing, while the unemployment rate shifted down to 4.1% compared to a forecasted 4.2%. Analysts note that robust labor market performance can create headwinds for risk assets and cryptocurrencies by indicating that the broader economy can withstand monetary policy tightening, thereby decreasing liquidity inflows.

Following the economic release, probability figures from CME Group's FedWatch Tool indicated that expectations for the Federal Reserve to implement a 25 basis point interest rate increase at the December meeting climbed from 66.9% to 76.8%.

Technical Support Levels and Analyst Warning

Bitcoin tested support near its 50-week simple moving average, positioned at $77,533. Keith Alan, cofounder of analytical platform Material Indicators, shared commentary on X regarding the significance of maintaining this technical threshold, which has functioned as support since September.

Strong support at the 50-week moving average faces scrutiny as Bitcoin prices test multi-week lows.

Alan stated that market participants cannot confirm the strength of this support level ahead of the weekly candle close. He added that if the region around $75,500 fails to hold, the asset could experience a decline toward $69,000, while any potential recovery relies on establishing a series of higher highs and higher lows on lower time frames.

Why it matters

Shifts in United States monetary policy expectations and labor market reports directly influence global liquidity conditions, which impacts risk assets including cryptocurrencies worldwide. Investors monitoring digital currency valuations must consider how broader macroeconomic indicators, such as employment data and Federal Reserve interest rate projections, affect market sentiment and trading ranges across international borders.
