Bitcoin miner IREN has adjusted the timeline for its upcoming AI operating-revenue milestone, moving the target from the end of December 2026 to January 31, 2027, with potential extension through February. Company management attributes this revised schedule to a customer-requested design change and supplier timing. The target, which projects more than $4 billion, represents an annualized operating measure rather than recognized annual revenue.
Alongside this schedule change, recent corporate results outline a separate $6 billion financing target designed to fund wider expansion efforts beyond an initial 0.3GW program. Management notes that funding coverage is currently defined around that initial 0.3GW of IT capacity, while the broader growth plan encompasses remaining fiscal year 2027 data-center and GPU spending measured from September 30.

According to the corporate earnings presentation, the remaining spending is categorized into $5.8 billion of cash including restricted cash, $3.2 billion of committed funding, and $6 billion still to be secured. The first two categories form a combined $9 billion bucket that includes undrawn GPU financing facilities and contracted customer prepayments yet to be received. Access to this committed funding depends on facility conditions, escrow releases, and availability periods.
Procurement activities are already progressing beyond the initial program, with hardware ordered for an additional 0.3GW. Meanwhile, management retains the flexibility to pace expansion toward broader capacity goals, including 0.8GW by the end of calendar 2027. Customer cash contributions can also reduce external financing requirements, as illustrated by a post-quarter five-year contract featuring estimated annual revenue of approximately $22 million per IT megawatt and prepayments covering 90 percent of its associated GPU capital expenditure.
Financial structures vary across facilities, with prior disclosures indicating differing interest rates and deployment mechanisms such as senior secured loans and notes funded alongside hardware commissioning. The company's revenue mix has increasingly shifted toward artificial intelligence services, with combined AI revenue rising significantly between recent quarters while traditional operations represented a smaller portion of total earnings.

Why it matters
The adjustment in IREN's operating timetable highlights the operational adjustments and supplier dynamics involved in transitioning from digital asset mining to large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure. For market observers and industry participants, understanding the distinction between annualized run rates and recognized revenue provides clearer insight into how infrastructure providers scale their operations.
This evolution in corporate strategy demonstrates the capital-intensive nature of expanding data-center capacity and securing customized computing hardware. The outcomes of these financing efforts and facility deployments will shape the company's competitive position in the broader artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure sectors.
