A spectator was taken to hospital and several others injured when a section of the away stand gave way during a top-flight football match in Norway.

A Norwegian football match was temporarily halted on Sunday after a flooring panel in the away supporters' section gave way, sending multiple fans plunging through the structure and leading to one hospitalisation. The incident occurred at Tromso's stadium during their fixture against Bodo/Glimt, as travelling supporters stood in heavy rain.

The match in the country's top division was stopped just before the interval. Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin drew the referee's attention to the accident unfolding directly behind the goal where the visiting fans were gathered. Tromso officials confirmed in an official statement that a serious incident had taken place in the away section, resulting in injuries.

Simen Pedersen, press officer for Bodo/Glimt, stated that up to five individuals fell through the stands, with one person subsequently transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Eyewitness accounts from visiting supporters described how the floor fractured while fans were jumping and singing in the stands. Bodo supporter Andrine Moen noted that the flooring snapped in two rows ahead of them, causing at least two people to drop through, though the exact depth of the fall remains unconfirmed.

Stand Collapse Causes Match Delay

Following the structural failure, visiting supporters were instructed to vacate the affected area. Tromso club representatives asked their own fans to provide space for the displaced visitors in other sections of the ground. Match officials, club representatives, local police, and supporter groups held consultations before deciding to resume the fixture.

A spectator was hospitalized and several injured after a flooring panel collapsed in the away stand.

Once play restarted, Bodo player Ola Brynhildsen scored twice to secure victory for his side. The result moved Bodo/Glimt to the summit of the Eliteserien table, placing them ahead of Viking Stavanger on goal difference.

Why it matters

The incident highlights structural safety concerns within stadium away sections during high-intensity matches, forcing immediate protocol changes and coordination between clubs, police, and sports federations. The temporary suspension of play and subsequent reallocation of supporters demonstrate how safety emergencies directly impact matchday operations and league standings.
