Nvidia has launched an independent investigation after reports claimed CEO Jensen Huang was the target of a foreign intelligence effort involving a Chinese businesswoman.

Nvidia announced on Sunday that it is launching an independent review following reports that the company's chief executive officer, Jensen Huang, was the target of a foreign intelligence operation. The development comes as top Republican lawmakers in the US House of Representatives have urged Huang to brief Congress this month regarding an October report that alleged he maintained a close relationship with a Chinese businesswoman who reportedly passed information to Beijing.

According to reports published on Sunday, a draft email written by Huang to employees indicated that he admitted to a romantic relationship with a suspected Chinese spy and accepted full responsibility for his actions. In the draft communication, which was also reviewed by Reuters, Huang expressed deep regret to his family, stating that he was unfaithful to his wife and that his actions caused hurt to her and their children. Nvidia did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment regarding the Axios report on the CEO.

Nvidia has initiated an independent investigation after reports surfaced regarding its chief executive officer.

The corporation's board released a statement confirming that while there is currently no indication that United States national security or proprietary company secrets were compromised, the internal inquiry will thoroughly examine all available information. The board noted that Huang fully supports the review process and has committed to cooperating completely with the investigation.

Simultaneously, newly surfaced information revealed that a memo prepared by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was circulated among top policymakers within the Trump administration during the previous spring. The document reportedly contained intelligence indicating that the businesswoman linked to the Nvidia CEO was operating as a spy for China's ministry of state security. Despite these documented concerns, Huang and his wife, Lori Huang, subsequently received an invitation to attend a state dinner at the White House held in September for Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they were seated at the primary table alongside Donald Trump and the visiting leader.
