As political deadlock follows Israel's election, Palestinians face intensified West Bank closures and ongoing military operations in Gaza.

The recent Palestine election results and the broader political landscape remain in flux as Arab-led parties secured a record 19 seats, representing a 64 percent increase in voter turnout compared to 2022. Despite this historic participation, the aftermath has been marked by delegitimizing rhetoric from Israeli politicians and unproven allegations of fraud. While nearly 840,000 citizens voted for Ra’am and the Joint List, coalition negotiations have hit a wall. Right-wing leaders have ruled out partnerships with Palestinian parties, and opposition figures have set conditions, such as mandatory national service, that are considered unacceptable to those representing Palestinian citizens of Israel.

Palestinian citizens face political exclusion while enduring severe military sieges and humanitarian crises across occupied territories.

Escalating West Bank Sieges While political debates continue, the situation on the ground in the West Bank has deteriorated. In Hebron, a military siege resulted in the closure of 10 entrances, the displacement of 5,000 residents, and over 120 arrests. Although the army withdrew on November 2, the economic impact is severe, with daily losses estimated between 10 million and 12 million shekels. Similar closures affect Masafer Yatta, where 12 villages remain cut off. Residents like Yousef Shanaran in Wadi Rakhim report being trapped without access to food or water for weeks, with settlers allegedly poisoning local wells. Furthermore, the olive harvest has been severely disrupted by a record number of settler attacks, often followed by the military declaring areas closed to farmers.

Gaza Humanitarian Crisis In Gaza, the humanitarian situation continues to decline as the death toll since last year's ceasefire reached 1,593 by November 2. The UN has warned of a shrinking "kill zone" as military operations move westward. With 26 hospitals out of service and fuel shortages threatening the remaining facilities, the health system is on the verge of collapse. Humanitarian aid, including essential tents for thousands of displaced people, remains severely restricted, leaving the population vulnerable as winter approaches.

Why it matters The ongoing political deadlock and the intensification of military operations in the West Bank and Gaza reflect a deepening crisis for Palestinians. These events directly affect regional stability and the lives of thousands of civilians who are currently displaced or lacking access to basic necessities like water and medical care.
