The strategy strc preferred stock recovery reached a significant milestone on Wednesday as shares touched $100 par for the first time since May. This return to the stated par value follows five months of rate increases and more than $2 billion spent on share buybacks by the company to defend the price level.

During the summer, STRC had traded below $80 at times, representing a steep discount to its original value. Chairman Michael Saylor had previously pledged to maintain the dividend at 12% and keep the stock at or above par, which is the threshold required for the company to resume issuing new shares to fund additional bitcoin purchases.

Operational adjustments implemented over the past week helped drive the price rebound. Shareholders voted overwhelmingly on October 28 to approve daily dividends, eliminating the semi-monthly ex-dividend drops that previously added to price volatility. The first daily payment was distributed on Monday, and an October 29 filing confirmed the November rate at an annualized 12%, translating to $1 per share for the month. Meanwhile, shares of Strategy rose over 7% as bitcoin climbed above $80,000.

Launched in July 2025 at $90 with an initial 9% rate, the Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred grew to become the world's largest tradable preferred stock, boasting a market valuation exceeding $8 billion. However, the feedback loop stalled earlier in the year when the price drifted below par, pushing the company to raise rates progressively to 12% by summer. To protect the valuation, Strategy paused its bitcoin purchases in late October and dedicated $204.9 million specifically to retiring STRC shares, bringing total buybacks to roughly $2.25 billion.

Strategy successfully brought its STRC preferred stock back to $100 par following extensive buybacks and daily dividend implementations.

Why it matters

The recovery of the preferred stock is vital for the company's financial operations because it holds a massive digital asset reserve of 849,327 bitcoin alongside substantial quarterly obligations. Maintaining the preferred stock at par allows the firm to fulfill its dividend commitments through new preferred issuances rather than liquidating digital assets. As the asset trades at its target valuation, the company faces the upcoming test of whether it can successfully reopen its at-the-market issuance program.
