Solana lending protocol Kamino has tied most of its CEO's token allocation to valuation milestones while confirming holders have no claim on foundation revenue.

According to a public disclosure from the Solana lending protocol, Kamino CEO Michael Weisz has had the majority of his KMNO token allocation tied to sustained valuation milestones rather than temporary price increases. However, the same announcement clarifies that owning the token grants individuals no direct claim to foundation revenue, distributions, or equity.

The protocol outlined both this executive incentive structure and a separate twenty million dollar commitment dedicated to supporting long-term growth plans over a twenty-four month period. While most of the chief executive officer's allocation vests only when progressively higher market thresholds are achieved and maintained, the release did not specify the exact numerical targets or the precise duration each milestone must remain stable. Furthermore, the announcement does not state whether other founders, contributors, or investors are subject to identical conditions.

Executive token vesting requires sustained valuations while leaving foundation revenue claims absent for holders.

Kamino maintains that its foundation operates independently with no members, shareholders, or beneficiaries, receiving all onchain and offchain intellectual property and earnings. Onchain data from DefiLlama recorded five million dollars in fees, over six hundred thousand dollars in protocol revenue, and zero tracked holder revenue over a thirty-month period. Protocol fees encompass charges from tracked activity like lending interest and liquidation fees, whereas revenue represents the portion retained by the protocol rather than money designated for tokenholders.

At the time of the disclosure, market data showed the token trading at approximately thirty-four cents with a market capitalization of two hundred million dollars and twenty million dollars in daily trading volume. Although the foundation holds additional reserves beyond its growth commitment, the release emphasizes that future plans and potential token-support programs remain subject to change and will require distinct terms before any benefits can be evaluated.

Why it matters

This governance structure highlights the operational division between protocol activity and tokenholder rights within decentralized finance platforms. Evaluating the digital asset requires participants to look beyond aggregate fee generation to understand how capital is actually distributed or retained within the underlying organization.
