The federal government's Budget 2026 reveals plans to bring back the Canada Strong Pass for a third consecutive year.
Federal plans outlined in Budget 2026 indicate that the popular Canada Strong Pass is scheduled to make a comeback in 2027. Tabled on a Thursday, the new budget confirms the continuation of the program, which previously granted individuals discounted travel options and complimentary entry to select destinations.
Originally launched in mid-2025 and returning the following summer, the initiative is not a tangible ticket or card. Instead, the digital-style program provides both domestic residents and international visitors with reduced rates or free entry across various galleries, museums, and transportation services like VIA Rail, along with full access to specific federally operated outdoor spaces managed by Parks Canada.
Official data from previous operational periods highlights significant public engagement. Visits to federal conservation and park locations grew notably, national museum attendance saw substantial increases, and passenger counts on VIA Rail experienced positive growth.
Expansion Details and Funding
To support the upcoming 2027 renewal, the government proposes allocating specific funding toward the initiative. Proposed updates for the upcoming iteration include broadening the program's scope to incorporate discounted admission options for Indigenous-led cultural centres and museums.
Furthermore, separate provisions within the budget aim to permanently waive admission fees for children and youth under twenty-five visiting national museums year-round. Dedicated multi-year funding and ongoing financial support have been proposed to assist national cultural institutions and the National Battlefields Commission in implementing these permanent youth admissions.
Participants should note that historical exclusions remain in place. The program does not cover provincial, territorial, municipal, or privately run parks, nor locations managed outside the federal system, such as specific regional parks in Quรฉbec or third-party attractions.
The Canada Strong Pass will return in 2027, bringing discounted travel and expanded museum access.
Why it matters
The renewal of this federal program directly influences tourism patterns, cultural engagement, and domestic travel affordability for families and visitors across the country. By extending discounted travel and proposing new perks like reduced entry for Indigenous-led cultural spaces, the initiative encourages broader participation in national heritage and transportation networks.
