Kozo Tashima aims to run for the FIFA presidency, estimating a fair chance against incumbent Gianni Infantino in the upcoming election.
Kozo Tashima, the honorary president of the Japan Football Association, has expressed confidence in his upcoming campaign, estimating he holds a twenty to thirty percent chance of securing the top position in global football. Tashima recently announced his intention to challenge current leadership, making him the first Japanese candidate to seek the role. The upcoming election is scheduled for March, with nomination deadlines fast approaching in November.
During discussions with media outlets, Tashima emphasized that governance remains the primary issue facing the organization. The sixty-eight-year-old former player and experienced council member noted that he has already initiated contact with international officials and representatives across multiple countries to gather necessary backing. Candidates must secure nominations from at least five national associations to officially stand in the race.
Kozo Tashima believes he has a fair chance to unseat FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Incumbent leader Gianni Infantino is currently seeking a fourth term as head of the governing body. While Infantino faced scrutiny earlier in the year over commercial proposals, his candidacy received substantial momentum following endorsements from major regional confederations and officials across the global membership network.
Tashima stated his intention to preserve effective operations while reforming problematic areas. Meanwhile, former international player Ramon Vega has also declared an intention to challenge the Swiss incumbent. As the electoral process moves forward, nominees continue working to fulfill administrative requirements before the final submission deadline.
The challenge brings attention to governance standards within global sports administration. This election impacts member associations worldwide as candidates outline their plans for the future of international competitions.
