Sri Lanka's gross official reserves climbed to USD 7.09 billion at the end of October, backed by a Chinese swap arrangement.
The economic landscape of Sri Lanka received a notable update as official figures showed substantial growth in national reserves. According to data published in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Weekly Economic Indicators report, gross official reserves reached USD 7.09 billion at the conclusion of October 2026. This updated financial position was officially announced on November 6, providing a clearer picture of the country's monetary standing.
Financial authorities noted that the total reserve amount was provisionally valued at USD 7,086 million by the end of the month. This calculation incorporates funds obtained through the ongoing currency swap arrangement established with the Peopleโs Bank of China.
Sri Lanka's gross official reserves hit USD 7.09 billion at the end of October.
In addition to the reserve totals, the central financial institution revealed activity within the domestic market. During the month of October, the Central Bank engaged in net foreign exchange purchases totaling USD 191 million.
Despite the positive movement in overall reserves, the domestic currency faced downward pressure. As of November 6, 2026, the Sri Lankan rupee registered a year-to-date depreciation of 6.7 percent when measured against the US dollar.
The expansion of foreign reserves strengthens the nation's financial cushion for international trade and debt management. Monitoring these economic indicators helps observers understand the trajectory of the Sri Lanka currency and broader financial stability in the region.
