A new survey reveals that young adults in India's heartland view Israel as a top strategic ally, with growing optimism for partnerships in technology and manufacturing.
Indiaโs strategic and economic ties with Israel are paving the way for significant advancements in the domestic manufacturing sector. As the nation seeks to bolster its industrial capabilities and decrease its reliance on imports, collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, research, and defence electronics companies in India is becoming increasingly vital. These sectors are identified as key drivers for future growth, with Israeli expertise in innovation expected to play a substantial role in supporting India's industrial ambitions.

The potential for cooperation is being met with strong public support, particularly among the younger generation. According to an October 2026 survey conducted by the India Israel Centre, young adults aged 21 to 40 across the Hindi heartlandโspecifically in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhandโview Israel as a primary partner. Among the 1,023 respondents, 62% identified Israel as a "good friend," while 57% noted that the nation consistently supports India during challenging periods. Only Russia ranked higher in these metrics, while Israel outperformed the United States and Japan in terms of perceived helpfulness.
Growing collaboration in technology and defence is strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Israel.
Public perception of the bilateral relationship is closely tied to tangible outcomes in technology and security. The survey highlighted that 61% of youth in the heartland believe India benefits from these ties, a notable increase from 48% recorded in May. In regions such as Gorakhpur and Varanasi, where agricultural and employment links are more visible, trust levels reached as high as 91% and 88%, respectively. Suresh Nakhua, a spokesperson for the India Israel Centre, noted that these findings reflect a clear shift in sentiment, driven by the real-world impact of shared technological and security initiatives.
Why it matters
The strengthening of this partnership signals a transition for Israel from a distant partner to a core strategic ally. For India, this shift is particularly significant for the manufacturing sector, as it provides a framework for scaling domestic production through international research and innovation.
This development directly affects professionals and industrial stakeholders who are looking to leverage global expertise to modernize India's technological base. As the public appetite for deeper cooperation grows, the alignment between Indiaโs industrial goals and Israeli technological capabilities is likely to remain a focal point of the bilateral relationship.
